Biographical Info

Nathan Layman is a postdoctoral researcher working with Scott Nuismer as part of large collaborative group studying the efficacy of transmissible vaccines in controlling zoonotic diseases. Nathan earned his PhD from Washington State University where he studied the evolution of plant mating systems and the consequences of bottlenecks and polyploidy on the genetic diversity of populations.

Coming from a background in evolutionary biology, Nathan has a broad set of skills including field work, wet lab experience, and stochastic modeling. He enjoys learning new methods to answer interesting biological questions and is currently working on developing mathematical models to explore the effects of cyclical host population sizes on the genetic diversity of pathogens.
