About Us

The Institute for Modeling Collaboration

The Institute for Modeling Collaboration and Innovation (IMCI) is a multidisciplinary, collaborative research program housed at the University of Idaho and funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We strive to create an intellectual, cultural, and physical environment that fosters synergy for biomedical research. We see ourselves as the epicenter of all research involving modeling at the university.

Our Mission

To foster the convergence in interdisciplinary biomedical research.
Our specific aims are:

  1. Conduct model-based, interdisciplinary research that leads faculty to transition to independence.
  2. Establish a collaborative and synergistic Modeling Core to impel interdisciplinary research and to build institutional research capacity.
  3. Increase the participation in biomedical research at the University of Idaho.

At IMCI’s heart is the “Collaboratorium”. Faculty and students working in both modeling and empirical areas meet with postdoctoral scientists who devote full-time efforts to collaborative modeling. Our goal is to bring together the brightest minds across disciplines to generate better and more innovative modeling research and results.

Researchers gather in the “Collaboratorium”, IRIC 352.

While there are many ways to connect, the physical Collaboratorium can be found in the Integrated Research and Innovation Center (IRIC) at the Moscow, Idaho campus. This high-tech and modern facility houses a comfortable meeting space but also includes AV options for those working abroad.

We have more than a dozen Working Groups representing sixteen departments across eight colleges, meeting regularly to brainstorm, discuss research, and create understanding.

The University of Idaho

The University of Idaho (UI) is a land-grant and Carnegie R1 university that boasts a thriving interdisciplinary studies culture. The university is committed to both undergraduate and graduate students in programs, including medical and veterinary education for the state of Idaho which fosters an environment well suited for biomedical research. UI supports science collaboration through a social approach by facilitating workshops, and through seed grant opportunities.
