Peers & Beers: Our Experience with Peer Mentoring

Peer mentoring is the topic of the next CMCI Brown Bag Lunch!

Monday, April 9
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Collaboratorium, IRIC 352

On Monday, April 9, three CMCI project directors,

Christine Parent, Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences
Tanya Miura, Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences
Bert Baumgaertner, Assistant Professor of Philosophy

will present, “Peers & Beers: Our Experience with Peer Mentoring,” at the Brown Bag Lunch.

Description: The overall purpose of academic peer mentoring is to provide a support system that helps peers to navigate the challenges of academic careers. We will present on our peer mentoring experiences and a short guide we recently produced. We will cover three major themes: the structure of an effective peer group, the logistics of meetings, and some topics to cover. Our guide is based on our personal experiences over the past three years and thus may not be fully generalizable. For this reason our presentation will incorporate audience discussion on the major themes.

CMCI Brown Bag Lunch events happen weekly. They are free and open to the public. All UI-affiliated faculty, staff and students are welcome and invited to attend.
